About COLCRYS (colchicine, USP)
COLCRYS is an FDA-approved medication shown to reduce the pain of gout flares in some patients in
1 day when taken at the first sign of a flare. PLUS, it also may help prevent gout flares in patients
starting a medicine to lower uric acid levels.
COLCRYS at a glance
- Reduces gout flare pain: In a clinical trial, COLCRYS reduced the pain of gout flares by at least half based on patient self-assessment for some patients in 1 day.
- Helps prevent future gout flares: In a 6-month clinical study, patients took either colchicine (the active ingredient in COLCRYS) or a placebo (sugar pill) along with allopurinol, a medicine that lowers uric acid levels. The result: Patients who took colchicine had fewer gout flares than those who took a placebo.
COLCRYS does not treat high uric acid levels (the cause of gout), and has not been shown to prevent joint deformities and tissue destruction.
